Mount Olive’s Safe Trick-or-Treat took place on October 26th in the high school Commons area. And needless to say, the event was a big hit. For more than 5 years, Safe Trick-or-Treat has been taking place at the high school and kids as well as adults love it. Safe Trick-or-Treat was started by Key Club to provide a safe and fun environment where kids can experience Halloween and get candy, all while being in a warm, supervised location. Sending your kids out in the cold to collect candy from strangers all while in the dark is a scary concept for parents, but with Safe Trick or Treat, parents’ uneasiness is dispelled.
The high school is decorated for the event in many fun and interesting ways, and students helping run the event are encouraged to dress up. Students from the high school who are a part of certain clubs may go to help in many different ways throughout the night. Students can help set up the Commons, scare trick-or-treaters, clean up afterwards, or they can even volunteer to bring in props and candy for the kids. One of the most popular features at the event this year was the drama club’s haunted house, which took place in the Performing Arts Center.
When asked to comment on the Safe Trick or Treat, one MOHS student remarked that it was great to see all the little kids dressed up and to be able to spend time with your friends. Another student said that she enjoyed how many clubs participated in the event and that it was a great place for everyone in the community to come together and celebrate Halloween.
Safe Trick-or-Treat at Mount Olive High School continues to grow and succeed with each coming year. Overall, it is not only a great place for kids and families to celebrate Halloween, but it is also a great environment for students to participate in their schools activities and to hang out with friends.
