If you thought eating turkey on Thanksgiving was the only holiday, you were mistaken.
Black Friday is a tradition that has been around since 1869 to refer to an entire year of operating at a loss (“in the red”) stores would supposedly earn a profit (“went into the black”) on the day after Thanksgiving, because holiday shoppers blew so much money on discounted merchandise. Black Friday is specifically the day right after Thanksgiving and it takes place early in the morning. During this one day of the year the stores will be open almost all day and have amazing sales! As much fun as this sounds, Black Friday shopping is also very hectic and intense. Many shopaholics fights over the same shirts and if people don’t get to the store on time, specific items could be sold out.
This year Black Friday will take place on November 24th and 25th. The reason Black Friday is also the same day as Thanksgiving is because many name brand stores start their sales very early. For example, at Toys “R” Us they will open their store at 5p.m, while Walmart planned to start Black Friday sales at 6 p.m. just like Best Buy. Then JCPenney, Kohl's, Macy's, Sears, and Target planned to open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Even though most people at this time are still eating turkey, these deals can be great Christmas presents or appliances for daily use! Some various sales on Black Friday from Staples include Google Chromecast for $25.00, a Staples Ream 8.5 x 11-in. Paper for $0.01, the Amazon Fire TV Stick w/ Alexa Voice Remote for $29.99, and the Amazon Fire 7" Tablet for $33.33. These are amazing deals, but they do come at a “high” price. In order to get these items, people have to wait on lines for hours outside in the cold, and once you get inside the stores are very crowded and the cash register lines are a mile long.
As hectic as Black Friday shopping can be is it is totally worth it! The deals in all the stores are amazing and a great opportunity for gifts for the family. This is a once in a lifetime experience that families can look forward to every year. Walking into that store at 12 o’clock at night gives that person rush that they will remember forever. Don’t forget that Black Friday is “when people trample others for goods mere hours after being thankful for what they already have.”
