Got Tennis Spirit?

Got tennis spirit? These girls sure do! The Mount Olive Girls’ Tennis Team has finished up their last matches with lots of spirit and pride. The girls agreed to share their thoughts on this season, which ran from September 6 to October 19.

Grace Davalos, a freshman on the tennis team, says her first year was “exciting, a lot of hard work, and a lot of learning.”

Every day after school, the tennis team heads to the Mount Olive Middle school to practice on the courts or give it their all during matches against opposing teams. This year, matches could be three days in a row, many times even getting on a bus to an away game to compete.

Nonetheless, the girls have a passion for what they do. Nayana Badapati, a sophomore on the varsity team, shared what tennis meant to her. “Tennis means a lot to me. As I came in as a freshman, I was nervous that I wouldn't get along with upperclassman or they wouldn't like me. But as I came to the tennis season with the same fear, I realized I was appreciated by everyone else. Not only this but when I joined this team, I further on enjoyed my passion for this sport and realized there were big opportunities available for me.”

However, the girls on the tennis team are not burdened with hard work, but instead have fun doing what they love! Amulya Dasoju, a sophomore, said, “I like practice every day and working with my friends and new people and improving every year” when she was asked for her favorite part of tennis.

Thinking of joining next year? The team would love to have you! The varsity girls say, “We all support each other to grow and learn as players and people. You got to be in it to win it!” Samantha Prevete, a varsity player, explains that “You should join the sport because it is something you can do for the rest of your life and not just high school.”
