The Mount Olive Boys Soccer Team is well-known around the school and community, creating a legacy for themselves over the past few years. Following their 3rd year as conference title holders, the team holds high hopes for this current season. After a rigorous pre-season, the boys continue to put in hard work and to do their best, with a goal of defending their conference title for a 4th consecutive year.
With a record of 7-5 as of October 9th; undefeated 4-0 in their conference, their fans excitedly look forward to see what the team has in store for the remainder of the season. Not only does the team have hopeful hearts for the rest of the season, but the town as well, will be cheering for them to succeed in their goals. As Babe Ruth said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up,” and the Boys Soccer team have proven themselves to be the epitome of this aphorism this past season.
Interviews
How has the season been so far?
Besnik Hadzovic
Junior & Varsity Center Mid
“The season has been going well, with all of our losses coming to very good teams. We only lost 1-0 to a NJ top 20 team in our county tournament. We are undefeated in our conference and we're looking forward in getting far in states as well.”
Thales Tiago
Senior & Varsity Captain
“Although we may not have the nicest record , we still have been able to compete with very good teams and we have only been getting better since the start of the season”
What would you say to someone thinking about joining soccer?
Andrew Broening
Senior & Varsity Captain
“Something to say to all of the kids thinking of joining soccer is that it really is a great atmosphere to be apart of. Everyone is friendly with each other and is welcoming to newcomers. So, overall if you're thinking of joining the team, please do, because it'll leave you with amazing memories you will never forget!”
Brandon Ramos
Junior & JV Captain
“I would tell them that this is one of the most competitive sports in the whole school. The teams are formed by the coaches selecting the most competitive and hard working players at tryouts. I would highly encourage anyone to tryout for the soccer team but I would advise them to prepare themselves during the off season to ensure that they make a big impact during the season.”
Naveen Kamath
Sophomore & JV Captain
“For anyone thinking of joining the team, they should just go for it. Anyone with a passion for playing the sport should be given the chance to tryout. Although the preseason training can be rigorous, it's worth it in the end when you get to play with your friends and cheer each other on. It's also important though that they can balance between the sport and homework since it is required to maintain certain grades in school to be on the team.”
What is something you have gained from being apart of the soccer team?
Andrew Broening
“We've learned that working with a team is immensely more powerful and efficient than being an individual. Also, we've gained friendships that we will never forget”
Brandon Ramos
“Something I've gained from being on the soccer team would be that desire to succeed and work hard not only on the field, but at school and at other activities.”
What do you want to achieve for the remainder of the season?
Alex Colon
Senior & Varsity Captain
“What we would like to achieve in the rest of the season is defending our conference title for the 4th year in a row as well as trying our best to win states. We work hard every practice and game and I believe that we have it in us to be victorious in any goal that we put in our path.”
Besnik Hadzovic
“For the remaining time left in our season, I along with the team aim to finish up the undefeated conference run and beat the rest of our schedule. Finally, we want to make a statement when we play in states, trying to make it as far as we can, hoping to win a state title.”
